The Golden Rule – Our Take

Everyone knows what the “Golden Rule” is.  It says to treat others as you wish to be treated.  This is a phrase that many of us, including myself, heard growing up from our parents, teachers, and several other people who contributed to our upbringings.  The rule itself is all well and good, right?  Well, I disagree.  The premise is good but when I start to think about it I’m not sure I can wholeheartedly commit to living by it.  The problem I have with the “Golden Rule” is that not everyone wants to be treated the same way.  While I might prefer to meet with my clients in person, I know that many of them prefer to do business by phone, online, by email, or even through text messaging and social media.  This is the world we live in today; a fully connected society.  I strive to treat others as they wish to be treated.  Surely, just because something works for me doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for everyone.  That’s why I take appointments in the evenings and on weekends.  It’s why I take meetings outside of my office when my clients need it.  So, I’ve made an adjustment to the “Golden Rule”; call it Golden Rule 2.0.  The philosophy is to treat people as THEY wish to be treated.  It’s my belief that a company, no matter how large or small, cannot possibly be customer-centric without fully committing to this idea.  Our goal at OnPoint Insurance Services is to embody this approach to service.  This means we want to do business the way you want to do business; 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
